In the year 1850 Los Angeles enters the Union as a Free state and is newly incorporated as an American city. Also, in 1850 31 murders take place on its bloody streets instantly making Los Angeles the new murder capital of America.
The percentage of people getting shot down in the streets of New York, or Chicago, or New Orleans or any other American city could not come close to the blood shed on the streets of Los Angeles in 1850, even in its earliest days.
Of course, this number does not include murders of non-whites which were not considered crimes that needed counting. At least, not to the new American authorities.
No one knows how many murders are committed out in the vast California wilderness when no one was watching.
